Most of our world is unpaved, so perhaps it’s no surprise that there is such a wide variety of off-road motorcycle racing events sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association.

Whether you want to race wide-open across an endless desert expanse, tear through the forest on a race-worn singletrack, or even blitz straight up a hillside that might be too steep to even climb on foot, there is an AMA off-road racing event made for you.

From observed trials to Endurocross to the ultimate off-road challenge — the International Six Days Enduro — you’re sure to find an AMA-sanctioned off-road event to scratch your particular racing itch.

Enduro

Run over challenging off-road terrain, enduros feature difficult “test” sections that are often connected via fire roads.

Extreme Off Road

Sometimes called “hard enduro,” extreme off-road events incorporate the most difficult off-road terrain possible.

Hare and Hound

Hare and hounds are wide-open desert races held on a natural-terrain course anywhere from 60 to 120 miles in length.

Hare Scrambles

Hare scrambles — also called cross country racing — are mass-start races that typically last for a pre-determined amount of time.

Hillclimb

Hillclimb is essentially a drag race up the face of a steep hill. The winner is the rider who reaches the top in the shortest time.

ISDE: International Six Days' Enduro

This six-day-long off-road-racing event utilizes an enduro-type format following a set route at a set pace over six days.

Observed Trails

Observed trials tests a rider’s ability to navigate over or around obstacles without stalling, crashing or touching a foot to the ground.
